Meet Mandie Mae

Mandie Mae also known as Bad Gyal is a young energetic alternative reggae musician, dancer, songwriter and actress. Born Nomagugu Amanda Nkomo in Chipinge in 2001, she is the first born in a family of three She grew up in the city of Kings and Queens, Bulawayo. She is the only member of her family to pursue a musical career, which makes her unique in her family.

“I fell in love with music when I was 12 and later pursued a professional career in 2018 marked by the release of my track titled Mash Up Di Place,” she said while enlightening us about her musical journey. After the release of her track she went on to work with some of the most influential people in her city such as Murphy Cubic, Larynx and Msiz’kay.

The young lady has also done a couple of heart pumping afrodancehall and reggae songs which have helped secure her place on the female musicians map in Zimbabwe. Her music is special because of the way she mixes her African tradition with the Jamaican style all at the same time.

Mandie Mae is greatly inspired by the likes of Patoranking, Busy Signal, Lucky Dube and Stonebwoy. Her dream is to be the next big female artist in Africa and to be internationally recognized.

She is a two time nominee for the Bulawayo Arts Awards, she also topped Skyz Metro chart two weeks (99%). She has performed at the Credisi party hosted by Iyasa, Shoko festival, Bulawayo Arts Awards and at the Intwasa arts festival.
